MVHS ATHLETIC BOOSTER MEETING
May 6th, 2009
Room 302

Present:        Melissa Dupuis, Leanne Virgin, Nancy Carlson, John Bernard, Jeremy
                        Myles, Paula Day, Eddie Paterson.

The meeting was called to order by President, Leanne Virgin, at 6:45pm.

Minutes
·        The minutes were read and a motion to approve was made by Paula day and seconded by Jeremy Myles.  The motion passed unanimously.
Treasurer’s Report
·        Due to a family emergency, Jennifer Kreckel did not attend.  Therefore we had no treasurer’s report.  Leanne Virgin stated that the balance was pretty much the same with the exception of two outstanding bills for appx.
$200.00.
Sports Banquet
·        We discussed the possibility of trying  something different this year, maybe  starting the banquet in the gym.  There John Bernard would give his talk, the seniors would be given there flowers and the Boosters would give an over view of what we had accomplished through the year and try to recruit new members.  We would then move into the café.  At the last meeting a motion was made to spend up to $300 on pizza for the banquet.  Nancy Carlson was concerned that we were not exactly sure how much pizza was needed, depending on how many athletes we had.  Nancy made a motion to amend the previous motion to state that we would spend whatever amount it takes so that we have enough pizza.  The motion was seconded by Eddie Paterson.  The motion passed unanimously.   The team assignments are as follows:  Tennis, lacrosse – soda, baseball/softball- chips, track- desserts.  According to John Bernard there are appx. 180 spring athletes.  John will send out a message to the spring coaches to please let us know if there are any teams that plan to not attend.
Baseball/Softball concessions
·        We had thought about trying to sell concessions at the ball games.  The freshmen class advisor is there selling hotdogs etc.  It was determined that we didn’t think it would be that profitable for us to do it anyway
Blue and Silver dance
·        We will hold the dance at the Eagles.  Everyone agreed that we needed to book a well known band to draw a crowd.  We will try to get the band Monsta, which costs appx. $400.00.  The date chosen was Sat. May 8, 2010.
We also wanted to change the name.  John Bernard came up with Falcons Booster Bash.  Leanne Virgin will check with Sherry at the Chamber to see if anything else is planned for that time.  We will form a committee closer to the date.
End of year banquet
·        The end of year banquet for members will be Sunday, May 17th at 6pm at the Far East Restaurant.  Ed Paterson expressed concern that people would not appreciate the fact that we were spending money earned for the athletes on ourselves and that it could lead to people saying negative things about the Boosters.  Melissa Dupuis stated that we had voted to spend $10 per person, $5 of that coming from what each member paid for dues.
That meant if all fifteen members attended it would amount to $75.00 and for all of the hours the members have volunteered she felt that was more than acceptable.  We will be doing a few drawings for various Mountain Valley items and also for a fall sports season pass.    Melissa Dupuis will e-mail out invitations to the members and get a head count so that reservations can be made.
Members Jackets
·        Melissa Dupuis and Nancy Carlson got prices on Jackets from Gee & Bee sports and Jaratos.  It was decided to go with Jaraots.  The price of the jackets is $39.90 plus tax.    A motion was made by Eddie Paterson for the Boosters to pay $20.00 toward a jacket for each member that wanted one.  The motion was seconded by Paula Day.  The motion passed unanimously.  The jackets will by royal blue with silver lettering.  On the back will have Mountain Valley Athletic Boosters, on the left front will have MV Boosters and on the sleeve will have a small falcon.  Melissa Dupuis will e-mail the members to see who is interested in getting one, and what size they want.  Melissa Dupuis will call Jaratos and see how the sizes run and to see if he has samples there so if anyone wants to go try one on they can.  The member will need to pay for their half before the order is placed.  The money can be brought to the office and put on the Booster mailbox.    The order will be placed on May 21st.  Leanne Virgin will be in charge of collecting the money and placing the order.
Scholarships
·        A scholarship nomination sheet with names provided by the administration was passed out and voted on. Melissa Dupuis, as a senior parent,  abstained from voting.  The four winners were as follows:
Females:  Shainna  Mills who will be attending Husson University and
Krista Lee who will be attending Thomas College.
Males:      Joshua Shaw whose college choice is undecided and
Adam Dupuis who will be attending Maine Maritime Academy
Dale Aleck Award
·        An award nomination sheet with names provided by the administration was passed out and voted on.  The winners were as follows:
Basketball player:   Travis Ruff
Cheerleader:            Vanessa Blouin
Election of Officers
·        A nomination ballot was passed out and voted on.  The only names on the ballot were the names of the current officers, therefore the officers stayed the same.
RSU
·        John Bernard explained that with the merger we need to support all schools working together.  There is a possibility of sharing facilities for different things.  Dirigo wanted to host the class C wrestling meet at our school and to do their own concessions.  John Bernard explained that if they did, our Boosters would like to share it or at least get a percentage what they made.  They were not agreeable to that.  They decided not to use our facility.
Batting Cages
·        Eddie Paterson spoke with Steve Lapointe, the boys baseball coach and also Brian Mills, the girls softball coach regarding the purchase of batting cages.  He also got information from the GRCC and Dan Richard from the Parks Dept.  about the possibility of sharing the cost.  Eddie had John Bernard check prices on them.  John brought some prices of new ones to the meeting.  Eddie explained that Steve  Lapointe is checking prices on used ones.  It was determined that if we did purchase one that a storage facility would have to be made to store it in.
Booster communication
·        Leanne Virgin requested that before anyone approaches people in the community on the Boosters behalf, that it be run by the officers first, or be brought up at a meeting.
Thank you
·        The Boosters received a nice thank you card with a group photo of the cheerleaders thanking us for supporting them all year.
Next Meeting
·        The next Boosters meeting will be Tues. June 9th at 6:00pm
Motion to adjourn was made me Nancy Carlson, seconded by Melissa Dupuis. Motion passed unanimously.
